Fig 2 Sewing the rosebuds
Tip
When making the rosebuds, select a thin fabric as this will fold more easily. If you choose a fabric that is shaded in colour, rather than a plain solid, this will help to create more depth to the appliqué shape.
4 Using the templates and the leaf fabric, follow the same appliqué technique for the leaves. Tack (baste) on leaves 1, 2 and 3 where shown on Fig 3 and sew under. Position leaf 4 slightly over part of leaf 3.
Fig 3 Appliquéing the leaves
Tip
When appliquéing leaves I try to have the fabric grain running from point to point of the leaf, to encourage the fabric to lie flat. Sometimes there is a bit of fabric design I particularly want, in which case I ignore the grain on very small pieces.
